Education

Real Men Giving Real Time®

EDUCATION programs deliver the support services which will help our youth achieve their educational goals.  Currently the 100 BMOLV has the Wimberly Initiative, an  after school program that provides trained professionals to help our mentees improve their grades.

Education is one of the cornerstones of our core mission. To improve the quality of life and enhance educational opportunities for African-American and other minorities, we actively support programs and activities that seek to improve the quality education for our youth.

In an effort to support and encourage community youth to seek higher education opportunities, we have provided scholarships to deserving students of Clark County. In conjunction with Ronald McDonald House, we have awarded more than 60 scholarships since our Chapter was created in Southern Nevada.

The 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc also provides tutoring programs for youth of the community. Our tutoring initiative is active in several schools. Tutoring is free to anyone who enrolls. The students have two options. Teachers we retain to tutor in an after school-tutoring program tutor the students or they can enroll in a tutoring program operated by our education partner, Sandra Haven or grant money provided by Nevada Department of Education through their 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant program, State Farm Insurance, and Golden Nugget Uplifting Children Fund. Our data has shown that these programs enhance the learning process for our young students.

Our efforts to improve the quality of education in Clark County have not gone unnoticed. We have received recognition for our efforts from the Administrators in the schools, the parents of our students and the students themselves. However, one of the most prestigious awards we've received was from The Clark County School District. They recognized the 100 Black Men of Las Vegas, Inc. with an award for Excellence in Education. The plaque hangs today at The Clark County School District Headquarters Building on their Education Wall of Fame.

In 2004, the 100 BMOLV began to collaborate with Imagine Charter Schools, a National Charter School - Education Management Organization (EMO) to provide guidance and build a charter school.

  • In 2006 the "100 Academy of Excellence" opened.
  • This is the first Charter School to open in North Las Vegas
  • The school was built on approximately 4.5 acres
  • In the first year, over 500 students enrolled from K-5
  • The school made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the first year
  • The middle school expansion has been completed
  • The school now has room for another 300 students and two grades (6th and 7th)
  • Next year the school will be a K-8 charter school

Our goal then is the same as it is today - provide an alternative to mainstream schools and create a school that pursues academic excellence for our kids because they deserve it.

A special thanks to Clark County School District (CCSD). We appreciate your continued support.

None of this would have happen however, without Imagine Schools. We would like to thank Dennis Bakke and Vickie Frazier- Williams, with Imagine Schools, for their vision, support, and commitment to education.
