Real Men Giving Real Time®
We believe Health & Wellness is a vital component of a thriving community. The 100 BMOLV is concerned about the well being of the whole community and the whole person. We have been, and will continue to be, a driving force within the health care community.
Our goal is to promote preventive health care and speak out aggressively on health care issues that affect our community. Our Health and Wellness initiatives are in place to help bring about awareness, educate and when possible, find appropriate care for children and adults in need. One way that we capture information and stay current on health care concerns and issues is through "Parent Mentoring Surveys." We give the children in our mentoring program, and their parents and or guardians, a survey to complete. From the answers in the survey, we are able to determine how our Health and Wellness program can best assist them and the community.
The 100 BMOLV is also very pleased to announce that we have initiated our Partners in Prevention (PIP) program. This is our National Health and Wellness initiative. We kicked off the first PIP program and meeting at the 100 Academy of Excellence campus. The focus of the PIP Program is for the 100 BMOLV to team up with other health care non-profit organizations, volunteer coalitions, clinical partners, and national partners. Our collaborative goal is to educate African-Americans and other minorities and promote preventative health strategies, deliver screenings, and early detection and treatment. The PIP program is an intervention program that focuses on increased awareness, education, and provides diagnostic examinations and follow-ups. We have created a Health Care Module that supports PIP. The Health Care Module is now part of all mentoring programs in all schools, where we mentor, including the Saturday Community Mentoring Program.
We have teamed up with, The Nevada Cancer Institute, Southern Nevada Health District, State of Nevada Health Department, Department of Health and Human Services, and Nathan Adelson Hospice, to teach children about the importance of health and creating healthy habits. We have also co-sponsored with the Southern Nevada Black Nurses Association, "Slam Dunk for Men's Health". The purpose of this program is to promote a higher level of health awareness among men and to encourage health screening for early detection of prostate cancer, hypertension, diabetes etc. We have also collaborated with Choose and Move for the past 5 years and helped sponsor their Healthy Hearts event.
We would like to thank all of our financial sponsors, specifically IGT, community partners, and the men and women who have given tireless hours for their dedication and hard work.
